String Squirter 200x ? I built this exhibit in 1999 after seeing a similar device in a video of a traveling exhibition made by Clifford Wagner.
I brought the phenomena out from behind Cliffors's plexiglas by using a low torque, impedence protected motor.
A key to the exhibit's success is the visitors' willingness to untangle the string when it innevitably gets tangled.
Construction Process I had at first planned to make the exhibit hand powered but built my first prototype with a motor. I was lucky to select a low torque, current limited motor from our stash of used motors. This turned out to solve all my safety concerns about rope burn or worse.
From this prototype it was a process of simplification to the version that is now on the floor.
